Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, said on Wednesday that Afghanistan wants to establish normal and constructive relations with the United States and needs diplomatic and economic ties with Washington.
Mujahid described relations between Afghanistan and the United States as being in the interests of both sides, saying that expanding economic ties with the United States is considered a national necessity for Afghanistan.
He also called for the resumption of the activities of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and Afghanistan’s diplomatic mission in Washington, emphasizing that diplomatic relations between the two countries should return to normal.
The Taliban spokesperson added that Kabul wants a shift away from the policies of the wartime period and the establishment of positive, constructive relations with the United States based on mutual interests.
These remarks come as relations between the Taliban and the United States have continued to face political and diplomatic challenges since the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan in 2021.
