The Taliban Ministry of Information and Culture has issued a written statement announcing that a new broadcasting license for the outlet has been granted to “Sultan Akhlaqi” as the license holder and “Abdul Rahman Mirzad” as the responsible director. According to the statement, Rahe Farda Radio and Television is allowed to resume its broadcasts “in accordance with the principles of the Islamic Emirate.”
A copy of this document was published on Sunday, 31 Jawza, on Rahe Farda’s official Facebook page. It states that the broadcasting license has been transferred from Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, to the new owners.
The Taliban had suspended Rahe Farda’s broadcasts in the month of Hoot last year. At the time, Taliban officials said the decision followed Mohammad Mohaqiq’s criticism of their policies and actions during border tensions with Pakistan. Reports also indicated that assets linked to Mohaqiq were confiscated by the Taliban.
Rahe Farda network has now announced that it has resumed its activities with a new license and HD broadcasts.
