The Independent Inquiry Relating to Afghanistan has released new documents and witness testimonies concerning the conduct of British special forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.
According to the inquiry, several witnesses described violent treatment of detainees, breaches of military regulations, and attempts to conceal evidence. Part of the testimony states that some British special forces personnel tortured detainees for entertainment during their deployment in Afghanistan.
Based on the published documents, two witnesses also told the inquiry that some British special forces personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq placed detainees on forklift forks and then suddenly drove the vehicle forward, causing them to fall to the ground.
In addition, according to the inquiry, a former British Army officer who served in Afghanistan testified that special forces considered themselves above the law and were not subject to restrictions imposed on other British military personnel, including the ban on consuming alcohol.
