Aimal Wali Khan, president of Pakistan’s Awami National Party (ANP), has described the Taliban’s denial of education to Afghan girls as an “inhumane” act and called for the immediate lifting of educational restrictions imposed on women and girls in Afghanistan.
On Thursday, October 29, during his visit to the United States, he criticised the Taliban’s education policies, saying: “If you are human, Pashtun, and Muslim, lift the ban on education for Afghan girls.”
Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have banned girls above Grade 6 from attending school and women from pursuing university education. These restrictions have drawn widespread criticism both domestically and internationally.
Nearly five years after these bans were imposed, millions of Afghan girls remain deprived of their fundamental right to education and further study.
