Ugandan military officials have announced the arrest of a man named Moses Mujurizi, who is accused of killing 38 people and eating their remains over a period of 15 years.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, announced in a post on the social media platform X on Monday, 26 October, that security forces had arrested the man. According to him, the alleged killings took place between 2010 and 2025 in the districts of Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo.

Kainerugaba said the suspect would be tried in an open court and also referred to his execution in the post. However, the allegations have not yet been proven in court, and no judicial ruling has been issued in the case.

In a report on the arrest, the Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor referred to a history of serial killings in the Masaka area and previous police efforts to arrest a person with a similar name. The newspaper reported that a man named Mujurizi had been arrested several times in previous years but had either escaped police custody or been released.

However, media reports about a person named Fred Mujulizi and earlier murder cases in the Masaka area do not, on their own, establish that he is the same person as Moses Mujurizi, who was identified in the latest arrest announcement.

In announcing the arrest, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces did not provide a list of victims or detailed evidence supporting the allegations that the suspect killed 38 people and ate their remains. Full details about the time and location of the arrest have also not been publicly released.

Investigations into the case are ongoing. The validity of the allegations, the number of victims and the suspect’s possible connection to the reported killings must be established through judicial proceedings.
