Women’s justice advocacy groups in northern Afghanistan emphasized that the current restrictions in the country violate the fundamental rights of women and called for an end to these limitations and the restoration of their basic rights.

Following the detention of several women over alleged violations of dress regulations, protests reportedly took place and were met with action by Taliban forces. Local and international sources have reported the detention of women, injuries among some protesters, and an increase in restrictions in the area.

Women’s rights advocates stress that Afghan women now, more than ever, need access to education, employment, civil liberties, and a life of dignity and respect. They call for an end to the widespread restrictions imposed on women across Afghanistan.
