Taliban Higher Education Minister: Hibatullah Akhundzada Was Chosen by a Shura of “Ahl al-Hall wa al-Aqd,” and Obedience to Him Is Obligatory

Neda Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, has said that Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada was chosen through a council known as “Ahl al-Hall wa al-Aqd” and that no one has the right to oppose him.

Nadim added that obedience to Hibatullah Akhundzada’s orders is “obligatory” and that Taliban members should not oppose the decisions and decrees of the group’s leader.

The remarks come as the Taliban’s leadership structure and the process through which Hibatullah Akhundzada was selected have remained subjects of debate.
