Fawzia Koofi: Inviting the Taliban to Europe Is a Slap in the Face of Afghan Women
Fawzia Koofi, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament, has criticized the invitation of Taliban officials to meetings in Europe, describing it as “a slap in the face of Afghan women.”
She stated that engaging with and hosting Taliban representatives while women and girls in Afghanistan are deprived of their fundamental rights sends the wrong message to the victims of the group’s policies.
Koofi emphasized that the international community should not ignore the widespread restrictions and repression faced by women in Afghanistan by normalizing relations with the Taliban. She urged European countries to prioritize human rights, particularly women’s rights, in any engagement with the Taliban.
