The Afghanistan Women’s Empowerment Movement – Quetta Branch has expressed concern over the disappearance of Sayed Qasim Hashemi, a journalist, and Hamed Ehsas, an Afghan filmmaker and cultural activist, in Islamabad, Pakistan, calling for the immediate clarification of their whereabouts and fate.

The movement said that, according to published reports, the two Afghan citizens have been missing for some time, while their families remain uninformed and deeply concerned.

The Afghanistan Women’s Empowerment Movement said the continuation of this situation has increased concerns about the safety, health, and fundamental rights of the two individuals. It emphasized that the right to life, personal security, and freedom from enforced disappearance are fundamental human rights.

In its statement, the movement called on the Pakistani government and relevant security and judicial authorities to conduct an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the disappearance of Sayed Qasim Hashemi and Hamed Ehsas and to share the findings with their families and the public.

The movement also called for the immediate disclosure of the whereabouts, health condition, and legal status of the two citizens if they have been detained, and for their families to be informed.

The Afghanistan Women’s Empowerment Movement also called on human rights organizations, the United Nations, organizations defending journalists, and the international community to seriously follow up on the case and take action to clarify the fate of the two Afghan citizens.

In another part of the statement, the movement called on media outlets and civil society activists to amplify the voices of the families of Sayed Qasim Hashemi and Hamed Ehsas and not allow the case to remain shrouded in silence and uncertainty.

The movement concluded by expressing sympathy and solidarity with the families of the two citizens and hoping that their health and safety will be confirmed as soon as possible.
