The Taliban-run Kabul Municipality has announced the discovery of a secret horse slaughterhouse in the city’s Fourth District, saying it prevented the sale of rotten and unusable meat intended for human consumption.
Fazl Karim Ahmad, an official with the Kabul Municipality, told media outlets that the meat obtained from the slaughterhouse was spoiled and unfit for human consumption.
According to him, the person responsible intended to sell the meat through a butcher shop, but municipal forces prevented the sale. He also said efforts to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the case are continuing.
The municipal official urged Kabul residents to purchase their meat from licensed butcher shops and, when buying meat, ensure that it has been supplied by official slaughterhouses.
Horse meat is generally not sold in butcher shops in Afghanistan.
