According to reports, at least eight women were arrested by Taliban forces in the Taimani area of Kabul on Saturday evening, September 12.
A Kabul resident told the media that he personally witnessed the arrest of the women. Two days after the incident, on Monday, September 14, a video was circulated on social media showing a woman resisting as two other women attempted to force her into a white van.
Some Kabul residents said the video shows the moment a woman was arrested by Taliban forces. The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice commonly uses white vans to transport women who have been arrested. At one point in the video, at least one man wearing clothing similar to that of Taliban morality officers can also be seen.
However, the Taliban have so far made no comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, some media outlets have reported that the number of women arrested may be as high as 20, and that a pregnant woman was also among those detained. These claims have not yet been independently verified.
