In a farewell message titled “Goodbye to Amu,” Mahdi said that the television network was established following the collapse of the former Afghan government and amid severe restrictions on freedom of expression, with the aim of filling the gap in independent news coverage. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues, particularly journalists working both inside and outside Afghanistan.


Mahdi also stated that a number of Amu TV employees inside the country had been detained and subjected to torture by the Taliban because of their cooperation with the network. However, he did not provide a specific reason for his resignation.


In another part of his message, Mahdi wrote that during the past four years the network had experienced both achievements and mistakes, emphasizing that its successes were the result of collective efforts, while responsibility for its shortcomings should also be acknowledged.


Amu TV was founded about four years ago in the United States by Samia Mahdi and Lotfullah Najafizada, two exiled Afghan journalists.
