Sami Sadat, the former commander of the Afghan army, has criticized the current situation in the country, saying that the continuation of Taliban rule over the past five years has pushed Afghanistan toward widespread political, economic, and social crises and has increased the migration of citizens.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, he wrote that although Afghanistan is not being bombed like Gaza or targeted by missile and drone attacks like Ukraine, political pressure, economic difficulties, and the loss of hope for the future have forced many young people and families to leave the country.
Sadat said that among those leaving Afghanistan are former military personnel, doctors, engineers, skilled workers, students, and young families. He added that despite being aware of the dangers along migration routes, including detention, mistreatment, deportation, or border-related incidents, many people still decide to leave because they do not see a clear and dignified future for themselves in Afghanistan.
The former Afghan army commander warned that the continuation of the current situation could lead to ongoing waves of migration, increased regional instability, and international security concerns.
He called on Europe and the international community to focus not only on the consequences of migration but also on the root causes of Afghanistan’s crisis. Sadat emphasized that the international community should support the people of Afghanistan and work toward creating a free, stable, and secure Afghanistan.
