Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, said in her speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that viewing Afghanistan solely through the lens of danger and threats would not resolve the country’s problems.

Speaking on behalf of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyeva emphasized that the people of Afghanistan should not be left alone to face the ongoing crises. According to her, despite the country’s ethnic diversity and numerous challenges, the Afghan people should have hope and confidence that achieving a peaceful life is possible.

Referring to the experience of Central Asian countries, the head of Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration said that countries that had previously had disputes over borders and water resources are now striving to view one another as partners rather than threats. She added that the same approach of cooperation and partnership could also be pursued toward Afghanistan.

Saida Mirziyoyeva’s speech comes after her recent appointment as Head of Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration. She had also previously met with António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General. In previous years, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev usually delivered the country’s address at the UN General Assembly and repeatedly emphasized the need for regional cooperation with Afghanistan and opposition to the country’s isolation.
