Protesters in Toronto: The Taliban Are Enemies of Women; The World Must Recognize Gender Apartheid
A group of Afghan citizens gathered in Toronto, Canada, on Friday, June 12, to protest the detention of women and girls by the Taliban in Herat.
Participants in the demonstration chanted slogans against the Taliban, describing the group as “enemies of women,” and called on the international community to pay serious attention to the situation of women in Afghanistan. They also urged international institutions to formally recognize gender apartheid in the country.
The protesters emphasized that the Taliban’s widespread restrictions on women and girls — including the denial of access to education, employment, and participation in public life — constitute a clear violation of human rights and should be met with a serious response from the international community and human rights organizations.
