Resistance Front Calls on UNAMA to Investigate Alleged Disrespect for Hasib Panjshiri’s Body
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan has called on the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and international human rights organizations to investigate and document what the front describes as disrespect toward the body of Hasib Panjshiri, its slain commander.
Abdullah Khunjani, the political official of the National Resistance Front, said in a message posted on X on Sunday, September 1, that the alleged conduct by Taliban forces toward the body of Hasib Panjshiri constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law, particularly Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, and could amount to a war crime.
Khunjani called for an immediate independent investigation and said the inquiry should be conducted with the aim of ensuring accountability, preserving human dignity, and safeguarding the principles and standards of international law.
Hasib Panjshiri, known as “Hasib Qawa-e Markaz” and one of the commanders of the National Resistance Front, was killed on Thursday, August 20 (29 Asad), in northern Salang. The National Resistance Front had previously confirmed his death.
Following his death, videos were circulated on social media showing, according to sources and reporting media outlets, members of the Taliban alongside his body and engaging in conduct toward the body that the National Resistance Front has described as “disrespect.”
The National Resistance Front says that an independent investigation could help clarify how the incident occurred, document evidence, and determine the responsibility of those involved.
