Local sources have told media outlets that Morteza Karimi, a teenager from Herat who was injured during the Taliban’s suppression of recent protests in the Jebrail area of the city, has died.

According to reports, he succumbed to his injuries after spending several days in hospital. The reports say he died from the severity of gunshot wounds sustained during the unrest.

Earlier, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) confirmed the death of another teenager during the crackdown on the protests and said it was reviewing reports of additional casualties.

The Taliban have not yet issued an official response to reports regarding the death of Morteza Karimi.
