He cited the Quranic verse, "Permission has been granted to those who are fought because they have been wronged" (Quran 22:39), saying that he considers it a basis for defending oneself against oppression. He also referred to the hadith, "Whoever is killed defending his property is a martyr," stating that, in his view, those who are killed while defending their lives, property, or honor are regarded as martyrs.
Saraji concluded by reiterating his position that, in his interpretation, armed struggle against any individual or group that oppresses the people is permissible.
