Kabul — Dr. Jafar Mahdavi, a former member of the Afghan House of Representatives, has denied reports and rumors circulating on social media claiming that he was arrested, placed under house arrest, and that his home was vacated by the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice.
In a video message posted on his personal X (Twitter) account on Sunday, 18 Asad 1405, Mahdavi stated that he is safe and in good health, and that no form of arrest or restriction has been imposed on him. He called the claims false and emphasized that the rumors about his arrest and house confinement are untrue.
These rumors spread after a protest statement by a number of leaders and figures from the Hazara and Shia community against the actions of Abdul Hakim Sharia, the Taliban Minister of Justice, was published on social media. In that statement, the Minister of Justice was accused of systematic discrimination and pressure against Hazaras and Shias.
In the same video message, Dr. Mahdavi said he had raised the concerns expressed by these leaders with senior Taliban officials and expressed hope that the issues would be reviewed and resolved through legal channels in the shortest possible time.
