Dawlat Waziri, former spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense in the previous republican government, has expressed gratitude toward the Taliban, stating that he now experiences a more comfortable and peaceful life in Kabul and feels more secure compared to the period when he served in the former system.
He noted that during the republic era, he was constantly concerned about his personal safety and that of his family and faced ongoing security threats.
These remarks come at a time when recent reports point to continuing human rights and security concerns in Afghanistan. The United Nations has reported the detention of at least 30 women in Herat on allegations of violating dress code regulations and has expressed concern over the move. Following public protests against the detention of women in Herat, there are also reports of casualties and arrests among demonstrators.
Meanwhile, in recent days, reports have emerged of the killing of two former Afghan security personnel in the provinces of Kapisa and Daikundi. Human rights organizations and the United Nations have previously reported cases of arrest, torture, and killings of former military members.
