The Belga news agency reports that the Belgian government has started security screenings of members of a Taliban delegation ahead of potential migration talks between the European Union and the Taliban.

According to the report, the delegation is expected to travel to Brussels to discuss the return of Afghan asylum seekers to Afghanistan. The European Commission has sent a list of the delegation members’ names to the Belgian government for security review.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot has confirmed the development, stating that the country’s security services are carrying out preliminary checks required for possible visa issuance.

Belga also added that in recent months, discussions within the European Union regarding the start of talks with the Taliban on the return of Afghan migrants have intensified. However, hosting a Taliban delegation in Brussels requires visas issued by Belgium, a process that carries significant political sensitivity due to the lack of international recognition of the Taliban government.

So far, no reports have confirmed that visas have been issued for members of the delegation, and Belgian officials have emphasized that the security review process is still in its early stages.
