The United States Permanently Closes Its Consulate in Peshawar

The United States permanently closed its Consulate General in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Friday.

The U.S. Department of State announced that all diplomatic and consular services for Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will now be provided through the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

According to U.S. officials, the decision was made as part of a broader review of the United States’ diplomatic presence, aimed at improving operational efficiency and ensuring the safety and security of diplomatic personnel. Officials also emphasized that the move does not represent a change in Washington’s diplomatic relations with Pakistan.

For decades, the U.S. Consulate in Peshawar served as one of America’s key diplomatic missions in northwestern Pakistan, providing consular services and managing diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
