The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Kunar Province has announced that it collected and then burned 832 musical instruments and music-playing devices.
In a statement, the ministry claimed that the items were collected because they were “disrupting social order” and causing disturbances for local residents.
The Taliban’s morality ministry in Kunar also warned that playing and broadcasting music is prohibited in Afghanistan and that those who violate the order will face action.
Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, members of the group have repeatedly collected and destroyed musical instruments and music equipment in various provinces. These restrictions have led to the closure of a number of music schools and artistic activities, while some artists and musicians have also left Afghanistan.
