Etilaat-e Roz newspaper, citing local sources in Daikundi province, has reported that a former member of the Afghan army was killed by gunmen in the Shahristan district of the province.

According to the report, Yaser Hosseini, a former soldier of the former republican government's army, was shot and killed by armed individuals on Friday evening (June 20) in the Alqan market, the center of Shahristan district.

Sources told Etilaat-e Roz that Mr. Hosseini had been running a shop in Alqan market after the fall of the republican government. According to these sources, he was targeted by two armed men with gunfire while closing his shop.

So far, the motive behind the incident and the identity of the perpetrators have not been determined. Local Taliban officials in Daikundi have also not commented on the matter.
