Chris Philp, the UK Conservative Party’s shadow home secretary and a senior party figure, has pledged that if the Conservatives return to power, they will immediately halt the safe and legal migration routes introduced by the Labour government.

These routes include the reopening of the UK Resettlement Scheme and three new community sponsorship routes. According to reports, around one-quarter of those expected to be accepted through the scheme will be Afghan women and girls and Palestinians.

Philp also said that if the Conservatives win the election, they will establish a new “deportation force” aimed at deporting 150,000 rejected asylum seekers, foreign criminals, and people whose visas have expired each year.

In an interview with the Daily Express, he said a Conservative government would return migrants to Afghanistan and Somalia and use facial-recognition technology to identify illegal migrants.

The remarks were made on the sidelines of the Conservative Party’s annual conference in Birmingham. Chris Philp is scheduled to deliver his main speech at the conference on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
