Search and rescue operations continue in the earthquake-affected areas of northern Venezuela as of Monday, June 29. Authorities say the death toll from last week’s two powerful earthquakes has risen to approximately 1,450, while more than 3,150 people have been injured.
The worst destruction has been reported in La Guaira State and parts of the capital, Caracas, where hundreds of residential and commercial buildings have either completely or partially collapsed, leaving thousands of families homeless.
According to official figures, 774 buildings sustained severe damage, and more than 12,700 people have been directly affected by the disaster.
