Sources say that Navidullah Fetrat, a teacher and critic of the Taliban, was arrested by Taliban forces on the morning of Wednesday, September 4, in the city of Herat.
According to sources, Fetrat was arrested at around 8:00 a.m. near Cinema Square in Herat and was subsequently taken to an unknown location. Sources have also claimed that the Taliban arrested a family for allegedly hosting Navidullah Fetrat.
So far, Taliban officials have not commented on the arrest of the teacher or the reasons behind it, and there is no independent information available about his whereabouts or condition.
In recent days, Navidullah Fetrat had strongly criticized the Taliban’s policies and actions through videos posted on his Facebook page. He had accused the Taliban of placing a “religious mask over ethnic objectives” and called on the group to separate religion from politics.
Fetrat had also held the Taliban responsible for depriving the people of Afghanistan of opportunities, establishing a dictatorial system, and using religion as a tool to advance political and ethnic objectives. He also called on religious scholars to take a position against the Taliban’s actions.
In one of his recent videos, the teacher said: “Perhaps this is my last video, but I will speak the truth before I die.”
His critical video was widely reshared on social media, and a number of users have expressed concern about his safety and fate.
