Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister emphasized the need for practical, coordinated, and gradual engagement by the international community with Afghanistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, linking the country’s long-term stability to the security and sustainable development of Central Asia.
Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister, said in his speech in New York on Friday, September 25, that addressing the situation in Afghanistan must take into account the country’s connection to regional security and development.
He stressed that humanitarian assistance for the people of Afghanistan remains essential; however, such assistance alone cannot end poverty, displacement, and the country’s dependence on aid.
Kazakhstan’s foreign minister called for a practical and coordinated approach to the international community’s engagement with Afghanistan and emphasized the central role of the United Nations in advancing these efforts.
According to him, Kazakhstan is working with the United Nations to activate the Regional Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. The center’s performance should be assessed based on practical results and the level of support it provides to the region.
