Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that, in response to the attack by US forces on Lark Island in the Persian Gulf, it targeted the King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones.
The IRGC’s Public Relations Department said that the attack targeted technical and maintenance infrastructure, as well as areas where fighter jets were stationed at the two bases, and claimed that heavy damage had been inflicted on these facilities.
Reuters also reported that the IRGC had announced a missile attack on two US bases in Jordan. According to initial reports, US forces in Jordan were targeted; however, a US official said that the missiles launched had been intercepted.
The attack came after US forces, according to a US official, targeted two rocket-launching systems belonging to the IRGC on Lark Island. The US official had claimed that the systems were being prepared to launch rockets carrying naval mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.
The extent of the damage caused to the King Hussein and Al-Azraq bases, as well as the number of possible casualties from the attack, has not yet been independently verified.
