Nimroz – Local sources and Taliban authorities in Nimroz Province have reported the discovery of the bodies of 14 Afghan migrants in the deserts of the province. According to the sources, the victims had disappeared about two weeks earlier while attempting to cross the Afghanistan–Iran border.
Local Taliban officials said the bodies were found in the Lalo area of the Dasht-e Margo desert. According to the information released, the 14 victims were part of a group of 19 migrants who had gone missing while traveling toward Iran.
Several days earlier, the bodies of five other members of the same group had been recovered in the same area. With the latest discovery, the total death toll from the incident has risen to 19.
Local authorities said the preliminary cause of death appears to have been extreme heat, dehydration, and lack of water in the desert. However, investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and the identities of all the victims have not yet been released.
The tragedy once again highlights the dangers of irregular migration routes from Afghanistan to Iran, where harsh environmental conditions and the activities of human smuggling networks claim the lives of many migrants each year.
