Rababa Mohammadi, an Afghan painter who creates artwork with her mouth despite her physical disability, has announced that she received the “Artist of the Year 2026” award at the Max Gala in Canada.
The ceremony was held on Saturday, October 10, in Toronto. Mohammadi announced that she had received the award by sharing photos and videos on her Instagram page, describing it as a new achievement in her artistic career.
According to Mohammadi, around 200 artists participated in the competition. Following a public vote and an evaluation by the judging panel, she was selected as the winner from among the three finalists.
The Max Gala organization also announced her selection in the “Artist of the Year” category by sharing a photo of the artist and congratulating her. In its message, the organization described Mohammadi as an Afghan artist and entrepreneur who is involved in SMILE’s “OpenShop” program.
Rababa Mohammadi is a well-known Afghan artist who creates her paintings with her mouth because of disabilities affecting her arms and legs. She left Afghanistan after the Taliban returned to power in 2021 and has continued her artistic work in Canada.
Receiving this award marks another achievement for the Afghan artist, who has continued to pursue her artistic career and introduce her work to a wider audience despite physical barriers and the challenges of migration.
